Stephen is an Arizona native with a passion for film making and an abiding interest in the darker side of motion pictures. Initially a skilled website designer, he began making movies in 2006 with Not Quite Dead, a short film about a group of friends besieged by zombies. He founded the production company Synthetic Human Pictures with the talents of Hayden Blades and David Matteson, and eventually added several other members into the group over time. In addition to commercials and documentaries, Stephen has directed the Synthetic Human short films Tip Jar, Drain, Common Ground, Pattern:Response, and Contingency.

In 2010, Stephen was nominated for Best Director for his work on Tension of Skin. He won the Best Director honors for Contingency and To a Lesser Degree, a one-off project with The Phoenix Independent Filmmaker's Group.

Currently, Stephen is working on a documentary about Paolo Soleri, following the artist as he and his team design and build their first bridge in Scottsdale, Arizona, as well as an on-going documentary about the history of the NHRA.
