Synthetic Human Pictures is very excited to announce the principal cast for our latest film, A Stray. The crew auditioned nearly one hundred actors over four weeks and are proud to reveal their selections!
Joe Flowers as Gabriel Althaus.
A single father whose life revolves around cleanliness, control and budget balanced with keeping his daughter happy. Handsome, though lacking a certain confidence, he has a warm, fatherly appearance and is mild-mannered. When pushed to his wits' end, he becomes insatiably angry - violent even - with his daughter being the only exception.
Joe is an actor, writer, and director from Phoenix, Arizona. He has starred in such films as The Nephila, Vinyl, Lost Mail, and The Crossroads of Fate. Joe performed his undergrad work in Theatre at Arizona State University and received a terminal degree in Acting from Illinois State University. Joe recently wrote and directed an original TV pilot which won "best pilot script" and "best filmed pilot for kids" at Moondance International Film Festival. When Joe isn't acting, he is teaching advanced drama classes at Shadow Mountain High School, as well as adjunct theatre faculty at Paradise Valley Community College.
Myrsadyse PangBurn as Katelyn Althaus.
Gabriel's seven-year-old daughter is infinitely cute and curious. She constantly questions the world around her and, like her father, she loves numbers and represses certain pains.
Myrsadyse (pronounced Mercedes) is an actress and model of Cuban/Russian descent. At age 7, she was a contestant for the 2010 World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) where she competed against 50 countries, bringing home bronze and silver medals for the United States.
Mina Mirkhah as Evelyn.
She is the gorgeous, mysterious, estranged wife of Gabriel. She has dark, wild hair, dark eyes and an untameable presence.
Mina received a degree in Biology and Medicine at Arizona State University in 2008 and later went on to study the Meisner technique in New York under Rochelle Oliver. She was also schooled at the SAG Conservatory before going on to be featured in such films as Oliver Stone's Wall Street 2, Sex & The City 2, and Three Kings. She has also appeared in numerous short films and television shows including Gossip Girl, Law & Order, and How To Make It In America. She has a love for the stage and can be seen in numerous theatrical productions around the valley.
Ronald R. Bush as Chuck.
Gabriel's conservative, narrow-minded older neighbor is slightly overweight but built like a former boxer. He is boisterous, confident, and looks down on Gabriel.
Ron is a veteran actor of stage and screen, starring in such diverse roles as King Oceanus in The Little Mermaid and Mike Talman in Wait Until Dark. He has been featured in such films as Spike Jonze's' The Suburbs, Breakthrough, and The Ballad of Johnny Reynolds. Ron is professionally trained in acting for film by instructors Steph Rowe, Paula Russel and 8 others.
Laura Durant as Millie.
Chuck's wife, Millie, is genuine and a good person. She is the counterpart to Chuck's cynical aloofness. She is the nice lady in the neighborhood who will always make you smile.
Laura's extensive résumé includes film, voice-over work, and press publicity/photography along with nearly two decades of stage acting. Her recent film credits include The Governor (an official selection in the 2007 Phoenix Film Festival), and Netherbeast Incorporated, starring Darrell Hammond, Steve Burns, Dave Foley, Jason Mewes, Judd Nelson, Amy Davidson and film legend Robert Wagner. She is an Emmy-nominated co-host of the IFP/Phx television show Screen Wars on KAZ-TV. Laura is the driving force behind Durant Communications, providing promotional support to actors and producers in Phoenix since 1997. Echo magazine film and stage critic Neil Cohen referred to her as a "Renaissance woman" and her myriad of talents were recently highlighted in a profile by Phoenix Downtown magazine.
The cast of A Stray will be in rehearsals this month with principal photography beginning mid-September and running through the end of October. To learn more about the film, please visit the official website at astraymovie.com.
